If someone finds nothing funny, they are called a wise cynic, and they live miserably. If someone else finds only some things funny, they are called normal, and they live normal lives. If a third person finds almost everything funny, they are an idiotic, facetious, foolish clown, but they live happily.

There's a difference between what we want, need, and deserve. We want a fresh-cooked, very hot, fancy, high quality meal at the finest restaurant around. We need a lukewarm bowl of oatmeal taken out of our dirty microwave at home. We deserve to starve to death in the cold somewhere. I think we can all agree that what we need is fine.

I often think about the metaphysical or metaphorical wonders that all things are, the complexities of their being or shape or color, and the beauty of their forms. And then I realize things are pretty simple, decently understandable, randomly assorted, always have an ugly side, and are better than my contemplations make them out to be.
