At times one may try to help people, but they may take it wrongly, resent "having" to be helped, or for whatever other reason, react inappropriately with the opposite of gratitude. This "reaction" could also come from "the universe" rather than people. Hence the lament, "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" when that happens. I hope it won't happen to me for trying to answer your question.

Excellent point, not too clear on that one myself.. Perhaps it means for everything good a person does another person tries to take advantage of you or the situation. Otherwise the notion that alturism does not not exist and every good deed we take part in is to benefit our own selfish consciences and not the people or factors involved in the actual deed. For this one must be punished. Maybe I am totally wrong, and the interpretation is much simpler and clearer, but the above seem to be the obvious for me anyway ??
