Did Somerset Maugham say this?
posted 2001 by Tina
I once read a wonderful truism and would like to find it again. It said something like this--it is said that a man gains character by doing things he does not like to do. If that is the case, I must have great character because every day I do 2 things I hate to do--I get up in the morning and I go to bed at night. I think it is from a novel by W. Somerset Maugham, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know the exact quote and source?

Maugham very likely said something similar. However,I think the exact quote your looking for is more likely to be found in the work of G.B. Shaw
